Energy Efficiency Rebates

What Are Energy Efficiency Rebates?

Energy efficiency rebates are incentives to purchase energy-efficient appliances over those that are less efficient and make energy-efficiency upgrades to an existing home.

It’s worth noting that rebates are different from energy tax credits – which you can learn about here.

How Much Can I Save?

Through the home electrification and appliance rebate programs, you can get up to $14,000 in rebates depending on what programs are available to you. The programs work best for those who are upgrading equipment and appliances in their home and/or whose household income is similar or below average for your area.

  • $8,000 for ENERGY STAR heat pumps
  • $2,500 for electrical panel
  • $1,750 for ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater
  • $1,600 for insulation, air sealing, and mechanical ventilation
  • $840 for ENERGY STAR electric stove, cooktop, range, or oven
  • And more – rebates apply to washers, driers, bath fans, televisions – just about everything.

How Do Energy Efficiency Rebates Work?

Energy efficiency rebates are offered by your state, possibly your utility company, and potentially from the manufacturer directly. There may be several or none available to you depending on where the appliance is being installed. For that reason, you’ll want to check to see if there are any rebates from your state or utility company in your area using the ENERGY STAR Rebate Finder.

Build.com offers free shipping on appliances and has a rebate finder on its site. If you’re purchasing from another dealer, be sure to inquire about what manufacturer rebates are available.
